There is an historic Methodist emphasis that is known as the ‘four alls’ and it serves well as a summary of our faith.
All need to be saved
All can be saved
All can know they are saved
All can be saved to the uttermost
What do these mean?
All need to be saved – There is something in each of us that separates us from God and prevents us from knowing him (we call it sin).
All can be saved – God has acted in the death and resurrection of Jesus, to do something about the problem. He forgives the past and offers us - and everyone - a new life in relationship with him.
All can know they are saved – Belief can sometimes be difficult to maintain when life has so many questions, but a relationship with God is less about belief and more about experience. God’s Spirit within us enables us to ‘feel’ as well as ‘believe’ God is present.
All can be saved to the uttermost - The Christian life isn’t just about being forgiven now and waiting for heaven. We believe God wants to change us for the better so that we live differently and make a difference in our world and communities.
